Profile Plastics has provided cost effective thermoforming solutions for more than 50 years. We offer design options that reduce cost and production time with proven benefits over other processes.
The Thermoforming Advantage:
Thermoforming is a generic term for the heating of extruded thermoplastic sheet and then applying a vacuum and/or pressure to form a plastic part. The world of thermoforming is divided into thin gauge thermoforming, roll fed sheet thermoforming (primarily packaging applications), and heavy gauge (0.030" to 0.050") cut sheet thermoforming (all other non-packaging markets). Heavy gauge thermoforming can be generally categorized into three techniques – vacuum forming, pressure forming, and twin-sheet forming. Profile Plastics specializes in sheet fed, medium- to heavy-gauge thermoforming utilizing starting plastic sheet thicknesses of 0.030" to 0.50". Thermoplastic sheet is available in a wide variety of materials with different end use properties, most of which may be custom colored to suit your application. After forming, parts are then trimmed as a secondary process using 5-axis and 6-axis CNC equipment.

Time and Cost Savings
As a result of the lower pressures required in the thermoforming process, tooling can be constructed at a lower cost than other processes and in a shorter period of time. This results in a more cost effective and quicker time to market for your project. In addition, most thermoplastic materials can be easily recycled, resulting in very little landfill waste.

Design Flexibility
Thermoforming provides a wide range of design options with a vast selection of materials, molded-in colors and finishes or textures. Available materials can meet a variety of physical and cosmetic properties. Molded-in color eliminates the need for painting of the part, thus reducing cost. Materials and designs can equal or exceed the strength of metals or fiberglass but at a lighter, more cost-effective weight. Large parts up to 8' x 12' can be produced at much lower tooling costs than other processes. In thermoforming, the larger the part, the more competitive is our process. Critical dimensions can be formed in or trimmed in with the utilization of 5-axis and 6-axis CNC routers.
